Apple unveiled the HomeView, a 7-inch smart display powered by Siri AI and Apple Intelligence. Priced at $299, the device aims to capture the smart home market through personalized privacy and a new ecosystem of third-party accessories.
Apple Inc. (AAPL) has officially entered the smart display market with the launch of the HomeView, a new device designed to serve as a central hub for smart home control, entertainment, and AI interactions. Unveiled on Tuesday at the company's "Welcome Home" event in New York, the HomeView features a 7-inch square Liquid Retina display, distinguishing it from competitors like the Amazon Echo Show and Google Nest Hub, which typically utilize rectangular landscape screens. The device is priced at $299, positioning it as a direct competitor in the premium smart home segment.
At the core of the HomeView is Apple's A18 chip, the same silicon found in the iPhone 16 Series and MacBook Neo. The device includes a 12-megapixel camera with Center Stage technology for video calls and dual full-range drivers for Spatial Audio. According to CNET, the square form factor is a deliberate design choice to make the device less obtrusive on countertops and walls. The system is powered by the revamped Siri AI and Apple Intelligence, which were introduced at WWDC in June 2026. This integration allows the HomeView to identify unique users and personalize the on-screen experience, a feature that Ben Wood, chief analyst at FDM CCS, noted was a key reason for the product's timing, given the importance of voice interactions.
The launch extends beyond a single device, as Apple is rolling out a broader smart home portfolio. The company announced a new Apple TV 4K with hands-free Siri AI capabilities and a second-generation HomePod small priced at $149. Furthermore, Apple has established partnerships with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric to provide compatible cameras, thermostats, sensors, video doorbells, and smart locks. These accessories are expected to become available in December and will be controllable through the Apple Home app.
Financial analysts view this expansion as a significant move for Apple's services revenue. Seeking Alpha reports that the integration of Siri AI into the new home lineup could drive up services revenue, with some analysts anticipating a paid Siri AI tier in the future. The launch has also had an immediate impact on the market, with Apple shares rising approximately 1% following the announcement. By locking consumers into a hardware and services ecosystem, Apple aims to strengthen its foothold in a market previously dominated by Amazon and Google.
