Soon-to-be-released device is easily the most expensive iPhone ever sold
Damaging Apple’s new iPhone Duo could cost you $1,499.
The company has revealed the repair costs for its new, folding phone ahead of its release next week. And Apple’s most expensive device comes with equally high charges to repair it.
“Other damage” to the device would cost up to $1,499 to fix, or the same in pounds, it shows. Breaking the inner display costs $999, more than the price of last year’s iPhone 17.
The inner display of the iPhone Duo comes with a special matte display, which not only allows the phone to bend but also reduces reflections in the screen. The cover layer that sits on top of that display and includes a fine texture to give the matte effect can be replaced on its own, if for instance it is scratched, for $49.
Apple offers a monthly subscription for its AppleCare+ service, which allows customers to have their broken devices fixed much more cheaply. That costs $19.99 per month, and reduces the cost of a broken display or other damage to $99.
The Duo is easily Apple’s most expensive iPhone. It starts at $1,999, or the same in pounds, and additional storage options can take the price up to $3,199.
It was launched alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max – which themselves would have been Apple’s most expensive iPhones, because of price rises that have been attributed to the increase in the price of memory. But they start at $1,199, or the same in pounds.
The iPhone Duo opens for pre-orders on Friday, 16 October, and will go on sale a week later, on 23 October. Reports have suggested that it could be in short supply when it goes on sale, because of production constraints.
