SpaceX stock is surging after a blowout quarter, but the earnings call just ignited a far bigger conversation about combining two of Elon Musk's most valuable companies into something the market has never seen before.
A revenue beat and fresh merger talk are carrying one space name far ahead of its sector. SpaceX (NASDAQ:SPCX | SPCX Price Prediction) stock is at $159.94, up 8% in morning trading, after the company posted Q3 2026 results that topped analysts’ expectations. The gain puts SpaceX stock at the front of a space rally that’s moving at a much slower pace everywhere else.
For a sector read, the Procure Space ETF (NASDAQ:UFO) is at $41.09, up 4%. Against that background, the SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (NYSEARCA:SPY) is at $770.88, up 0.28%, a far smaller move for the broad market. Space names are outpacing the market, and SpaceX stock is pulling away from the UFO sector fund as well.
Revenue Beat and Merger Committees Lift SpaceX
Results released after the prior session’s close showed SpaceX third-quarter revenue of $14.58 billion, well above analysts’ expectations. That top-line beat arrived alongside earnings per share that also cleared estimates, so SpaceX came out ahead on both measures. The strong quarter set up an earnings call where the merger discussion took center stage.
Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) is the other company in the merger idea adding fuel to the move in SpaceX stock. On the earnings call, SpaceX founder Elon Musk stated that SpaceX and Tesla have each formed special committees of independent directors to study a merger. Because he’s a interested party, Musk stated that he can’t take part in the committees’ discussions himself.
Elon Musk warned against assuming a merger is a certainty, then added, “Do I think it would be a good idea? Yes.” He also stated that the committees “have not reached agreement on the terms of any transaction,” adding, “And obviously there’s no guarantee that they will.” In his view, the case for combining SpaceX and Tesla rests on shared work in areas such as chip design, robotics and connectivity.
SpaceX combines rocket launches, the Starlink satellite network and a fast-growing compute business, so its results now turn on artificial intelligence (AI) demand (we covered seven companies supplying the AI data-center expansion, from power to cooling, in a free report you can grab here). Musk’s view of that demand was blunt: “I think we’re going to face a shortage of superintelligence compute. And that shortage is going to remain for a long time.”
Rocket Lab and AST SpaceMobile Trail the Leader
Gains elsewhere in the space group are far smaller. Notably, Rocket Lab (NASDAQ:RKLB) stock is at $52.10, up 2%, a modest advance next to the jump in SpaceX stock. AST SpaceMobile (NASDAQ:ASTS) stock is at $41.48, up 0.9%, the smallest gain among the space names covered here.
