Cloud-and-search parent Alphabet (GOOGL) added OpenAI models to Google Cloud's Model Garden in private preview, widening its pitch to enterprise AI buyers.
OpenAI's newest models enter Google's Model Garden under one enterprise billing and governance layer.
Google is choosing wider AI distribution even when the model supplier is a direct competitor.
Cloud-and-search parent Alphabet GOOGL added OpenAI models to Google Cloud's Model Garden in private preview, widening its pitch to enterprise AI buyers. Shares traded at $333.36, down approximately 2.0%, at 9:43 a.m. ET. The business logic is straightforward: Google can capture cloud spending even when customers choose another company's models.
According to Google's announcement, the initial offerings include GPT-Astra, GPT-6.1 Sol and GPT-6 Luna, joining a platform with more than 200 models. Purchases run through Google Cloud Marketplace, count against existing cloud commitments and qualify for Flexible Savings Plans. That gives customers a financial reason to keep more AI work inside Google's ecosystem. Access remains limited to select enterprise customers during the preview.
The valuation leaves little room for sloppy execution. Shares stand 28.66% above the $259.11 GF Value estimate, suggesting investors already expect substantial growth. Offering more models could help Google retain workloads, but a bigger catalog alone does not guarantee stronger profits. The next test is whether customer adoption translates into recurring consumption—and whether pricing leaves Google with attractive margins.
