Crystal Palace have struck first in the Premier League’s mid-window spending spree, agreeing an £11m fee for the 19-year-old USA youth international Zavier Gozo after the Real Salt Lake winger was left out of his side’s midweek fixture with an “excused absence”. Gozo is viewed as a potential long-term successor to Daniel Muñoz at right wing-back, with Palace needing cover after Nathaniel Clyne’s departure and Danny Imray’s £5m sale to Wrexham.
